The stone bridge, already documented in the Statutes of Novara as a pons ad Batriuscham, was built in the 16th century along the river Agogna at the ancient ford of Piora, towards the parish church of Cureggio.
It connected the town to the hamlet of Cureggio from what is now Piazza XX Settembre, where there was once a quarantine station for plague victims. Crossing the bridge, one came across the ‘prà dal Bujòn’ (the executioner’s meadow) where death sentences were carried out.
