The construction of the Oratory dates back to the end of the 12th century. Later, in the 15th century, the new church was built, and in the 17th century it was enlarged with a second nave following the discovery of ‘miracles’ due to devotion to the fresco of the Madonna of the Milk of 1484.
In the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, other valuable frescoes came to light, including a Madonna and Child that the people transformed into the Madonna of Providence. This is believed to be the work of Gaudenzio Ferrari.
